Data Center Board Status Monitoring and Control

Alpha Data's range of data center FPGA boards provide a variety of access methods allowing the system manager to monitor the operational status of the boards and perform configuration alterations and device reprogramming without the need to open up the server case and manually attach proprietary cabling to monitor and reconfigure the FPGA boards.


The latest Data Center products provide a system monitoring chip which is able to provide real-time temperature, voltage and current readings of the system, as well as reconfigure programmable clocks and much more. The system monitor can be accessed directly through the USB interface via the front panel, the UART connection to the target FPGA or through the SMBus interface on the card's PCI Express edge connector.



System Management

Local Management with USB

For ADM-PCIE-8K5, ADM-PCIE-9V3, ADM-PCIE-9H7 and ADM-PCIE-9H3.

Alpha Data provide the avr2util.exe (both for Windows and Linux) that allows the user to remotely access the board management microcontroller. The user can monitor power rail levels and board temperature. Also the user can configure non-volatile clock synthesiser values on compatible boards.



Remote Management with IPMI

For ADM-PCIE-8K5, ADM-PCIE-9V3, ADM-PCIE-9H7 and ADM-PCIE-9H3.

The majority of servers and remote computing systems of the present day provide the means for out-of-band access, control and monitoring of these systems in a secure and convenient way. IPMI is one of the more well-known platform management architectures that enable this.

At the core of every IPMI-enabled system is the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC). Alpha Data provides hardware that IPMI management controllers are able to communicate with, allowing the following to be performed remotely:

Alpha Data also provide the software tools needed to establish communication sessions between a host workstation and the remote IPMI system, allowing users to begin using IPMI to communicate with Alpha Data hardware with minimal effort.

Allows the user application (FPGA Firmware) to interrogate the boards status via the Board Control Interface (BCI) from the Target FPGA to the microcontroller.

For ADM-PCIE-7V3, ADM-PCIE-KU3 and ADM-PCIE-8K5.

Allows the user application (FPGA Firmware) to interrogate the boards status via the Board Control Interface (BCI) from the Target FPGA to the microcontroller.



FPGA/FLASH Configuration with Vivado Hardware Manager

Vivado Hardware Manager Software

USB Access for: ADM-PCIE-8K5, ADM-PCIE-9V3, ADM-PCIE-9H7 and ADM-PCIE-9H3.

Allows an external Computer running Vivado Hardware Manager to configure both the FPGA and the configuration Flash devices and only requires a standard micro-USB AB connector (no proprietary Xilinx Interface box required).

JTAG Cable Access for: ADM-PCIE-7V3 and ADM-PCIE-KU3.

Allows an external Computer running Vivado Hardware Manager to configure both the FPGA and the configuration Flash devices, requires a Xilinx Interface box.
